FAQs

1. Can I make jowar dosa without fermentation

Yes! For a quick version:

  • Use jowar flour instead of whole grains.

  • Add a pinch of baking soda or fruit salt (eno) for fluffiness.

  • Adjust water for a thin batter (like crepe consistency).

2. Why is my dosa sticking to the pan

  • The pan isn’t hot enough (heat on medium-high before pouring batter).

  • Batter is too thick (add water to thin it).

  • Grease the pan lightly with oil or ghee before each dosa.

3. Can I mix jowar with other flours

Yes! Try:

  • Jowar + Rice flour (for crispiness).

  • Jowar + Urad dal flour (for softness, with fermentation).

  • Jowar + Ragi (for extra nutrition).

4. Is jowar dosa gluten-free

Yes! Jowar (sorghum) is naturally gluten-free, making it ideal for gluten-sensitive diets.

5. How do I store jowar dosa batter

  • Fermented batter: Refrigerate for up to 2–3 days.

  • Unfermented batter: Use within 24 hours (may thicken—adjust water before cooking).

6. Why is my dosa breaking while flipping

  • Batter is too thin (add a spoon of rice flour to thicken).

  • Flipped too early (wait for edges to lift naturally).

Conclusion

Jowar dosa is a nutritious, gluten-free alternative to traditional dosas, rich in fiber and protein. Whether fermented for a tangy flavor or made instantly for a quick meal, it’s versatile and pairs well with coconut chutney, sambar, or spicy tomato chutney.

Perfect for a healthy breakfast or light dinner, this dosa is a great way to incorporate millets into your diet.
