Jhol Momo Recipe
Jhol Momo is a beloved Nepalese delicacy that combines soft, steamed dumplings Momo with a flavorful, soupy broth jhol. The Momo are typically filled with spiced vegetables or minced meat, and the jhol is a thin, aromatic soup made from tomatoes, sesame, cumin, and herbs like cilantro and mint. This dish is known for its light yet satisfying nature, offering a harmonious blend of textures and flavors. Ingredients Base Pure
2 Tablespoon soybean
2 Tablespoon white sesame
1/4 Cup peanuts
2 Tablespoon oil
1 Tablespoon cumin seeds
10 NOS sichuan peppercorns
12 NOS garlic cloves
3 Inch ginger
3 NOS green chili
2 NOS red chili
1 NO onion (sliced)
1/4 Tablespoon turmeric powder
3 NOS tomato (roughly chopped)
A handful coriander
Salt to taste
Hot water as needed
For Jhol Achar (sauce)
As needed water
Fresh coriander a handful (chopped)
Salt if needed
Water if needed
A large pinch sugar
Salt if needed
Step:1
Set a pan over high flame , let it get hot and then lower the flame . Add the soybeans and toast them over low flame while stirring them continuously until they turn slightly light brown
Step:2
Further add sesame seeds in the same pan and toast the sesame seeds also until they turn light brown and then transfer everything into a bowl

Set the same pan over low flame and add the peanuts and toast the peanuts also until they turn light brown , then transfer the peanuts into the same bowl and set it aside to cool down . Set a deep pan over high flame and add oil once it gets hot , let the oil heat up as well

Add cumin seeds , sichuan peppercorns , garlic , ginger , green chili and red chili , stir well and add the sliced onions cook over high flame until the onions turn soft and translucent

Further lower the flame and add turmeric powder , stir well and add the tomatoes along with coriander stem and slat , stir well and cook the tomatoes over high flame for 3-4 minutes then add hot water as needed stir well , cover and cook over low flame until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy

Then switch off the flame and let the mixture cool down until it comes to room temperature

Add the tomatoe mixture into a mixer grinder jar along with the toasted soybeans , sesame seeds and peanuts and grind it into a fine puree using water as needed , it’s consistency should be free flowing but not to liquidy

Transfer the puree into a deep pan and add more water to adjust the consistency along with fresh chopped coriander and stir well

Taste the jhol achar (sauce) at this stage and adjust seasoning , also add lwmon juice and stir well . Your jhol achar is ready at this stage you can serve it at room temperature with your choice of Momo

To make jhol soup turn on the gas flame to high and add more water to make it more soupy along with the sugar , stir and bring the soup to a boil

Once the soup comes to a boil , taste and adjust seasoning if needed . Your delicious jhol Momo soup is ready , serve with hot along with steamed Momos of your choice
